London | The Cold Winter (2010)

September 1 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Shot from the end of 2009 to early 2010, The Cold Winter captures the moment when Beijing’s famous 798 Art Zone suffered violent demolitions and evictions. In response to land expropriation by developers, the artists formed the ‘Warm Winter Plan’ movement to defend their rights through performance art and protests. Confronted with threats and brutal violence, the artists’ resistance, struggle, and hesitation are placed centre stage in this extremely cold winter.

The film captures the shift from initial unity to growing discord among the artists – inviting a deep reflection on the interplay between politics, art, and personal freedom.
